About

The Choir, one of the youngest male voice choirs in Wales, was founded for the new millennium year 2000. A small male voice choir was formed to sing on a makeshift stage and to perform at the striking of the hour of the new millennium. That event was filmed by an international news team and by means of a satellite link, as the choristers sang traditional Welsh songs, the performance was broadcast live throughout the world. The Choir has continued ever since and performs regularly at venues in Flintshire and further afield

Chairman's Notes

Caerwys Male Voice Choir [CMC] was formed in the year 2000 as part of celebrations to mark the new millennium in the historic town of Caerwys. The Choir has continued to regularly perform at numerous venues across North Wales since its creation and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2025 with a full schedule of events and concerts.
Emerging from the Covid era was a particularly challenging time for most choirs with reduction in membership and the demise of several of our partner choirs across North Wales. Remarkably, however, CMC has seen a 30% increase in its membership over the last 12 months. Nevertheless, to remain sustainable and improve our standard of performance CMC continues to recruit and welcome new members across all sections of the choir [top tenors/T1 in particular] irrespective of previous experience. Currently we have 29 loyal and committed members who attend practice on a regular basis. Our objective is to achieve a membership of 40 and develop into one of the best smaller choirs in North Wales capable of competing and performing at a national level.
The Choir meets for practice every Monday, 7.30pm at St Michael’s Church, Caerwys. Practice normally ends at around 9.00pm. With substantial number of us then reconvening at the local hostelry [Royal Oak pub] to socialise and recover for an hour or so!! Our success over the past twelve months has in no small part been due, not only to a hard-working Committee, but also the appointment of Mr Tudur Eames as our Musical Director in 2023. Tudur is the Director of Gwynedd and Mon Schools Music Service, a multi-talented professional musician in his own right and a very experienced choirmaster. We are absolutely delighted with his appointment and the contribution he continues to make to our development. The Choir is equally fortunate to secure Margaret Willams as our accompanist. Margaret has been with the Choir for many years. We continue to benefit from her professionalism and experience.
The benefits of singing in a choir to your health and wellbeing are well documented. If you wish to join us as a new member or wish to commission us for a concert or special occasion [e.g. weddings/anniversaries] please do not hesitate to contact either our hard-working Secretary [Mike Jones] or myself as Chair for further details.

Testimonials

Some quotes from Choir and Audience members

The choir fosters friendships, builds community and keeps the spirits high during difficult times. You learn how a song can get better and better, then better still and being in the group builds confidence and stage presence.
